Klaus Forster's Qualification for Cape Town Marathon 2018After being able to finish the Tahura trail run in Bandung on Java in Indonesia, I was pretty confident that I was ready to run the Cape Town Marathon 2018 with 56 km in South Africa.

Tahura trail was my first trail competition. And I completely underestimated the challenge! Either it went uphill or downhill, hardly any flat sections along the way. Parts of it were so muddy that one had to slip down on 4 legs. My last marathon in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2016 took me 4:04 hours.

So I expected to finish the trail in less than 5 hours to qualify for the Cape Town Marathon 2018. But it took me 2/3 of the distance to make me believe that I can make it at all. I reached km 28 after 5:30 hours and finished after 9:18 hours as the 112th male finisher. Only 12 minutes before the cut off time.

Due to a problem with my bank, I had to go to Germany during the preparation phase. A trip, that I didn’t do by heart. So it did cost me quite a bit of my energy. Visiting my parents, I got spoiled with delicious German food, which actually did not apply to my food plan.

But there was so delicious German food to choose from. Food I grew up with, and which I did not enjoy for a long time. So I got pretty undisciplined and enjoyed the sausages, cake, beef, pork, Döner 🥙 Bread and of cause some of the great German beers 🍻

My Excuses Not to Train for Cape Town Marathon 2018

The outside temperatures were about 7 degrees below the freezing point. Within the 3 weeks in Germany, gained about 3 kg because I did very little training for Cape Town Marathon 2018. My excuse to get out of bed was: It is too cold.

My problem was: I did not have a coach who kicked my ass. I was not able to motivate myself, to get out of bed and go running. Especially when the temperature was below the freezing point. And I had no one who was able to read what was written on my forehead, which I wasn’t able to se

Being on the Cape Town Marathon 2018, I only managed 42 km.

So get out of bed and get your coach today, who makes you accountable, and who pushes you over the last part of the distance of, that makes the difference. Everybody got his weak spot, where the discipline gets interrupted and what stops you from moving forward. That’s why:

How a Mastermind Group Works

Please let me share this experience of our mastermind group with you to explain, how a mastermind group works:

At a business retreat in Bali, held in April / May 2016 we were analyzing our strengths, biggest fun, passion, and dreams, and every mastermind participant tried to find out based on this analysis, what her or his driving values are. During the discussion about it, we asked everybody to guess the highest rated value of all of the other participants. Most of the guesses where pretty accurate. But in my case, every one of the other participants guessed a value, I did not find on my list. My list only contained: health, love, and growth.

How a Mastermind Group Works

But to my big surprise, everyone came up with „freedom“ as my most obvious first value. And after thinking about it, I understood, they are right. It was obviously written in fat capital letters on my forehead so that I wasn’t able to read it. And I was already living so much freedom, that I didn’t feel it as a driving force in my life. So they helped me to understand myself better.

Everybody has a blind spot like this. The participants of a mastermind group or a business retreat help each other to find the blind spots. If you get aware of your blind spot, you usually can make a big improvement with relatively little effort.

Members of a mastermind group need to be completely honest with each other, even if this might bring up facts, you don’t want to know about. Apart from that, they share their experience how they handle similar issues, to make the next step to improve your situation easier. So the big benefit of participating in a mastermind is, having a support team on your side, that helps to make you and your business grow.

Which combination of food serves your body and mind the best?

Healthy Food MixIn 2017 I lived for 4 months with my friend in Hanoi. She ate strictly vegan. I was not convinced, but to make things easy, I shared her diet most of the time. It seems like it turned out into a Healthy Food Mix. When I came back to Germany and met a friend, she made me a big compliment:

“Klaus, what did you do with your skin, it looks so clean, did you turn into a vegetarian?”

Motivated like that, I kept learning about nutrition that serves my health, body, and mind. And I found out some pretty curious things about food. Based on that I changed my diet like this:

3 Basics of a Healthy Food Mix

  1. The most essential resource for our body is oxygen. We die after a few minutes without it. The key to getting more of it into our body is deep breathing, which you can learn and practice e.g. in yoga classes, meditation or any kind of aerobic sports. And you can make it a habit, by training deep breathing over and over again.
  2. Water, about 70% of our body weight is water, and if we lose only 2 % we got already 10% less energy. So drinking every 2 hours one glass of pure water (without sugar or carbonate – no lolly drinks) keeps you well hydrated and full of energy, plus food with a high water content, which is vegetables, salad, and fruits.
  3. Healthy Food MixAnd here comes a surprise for most people: fats from vegetarian sources, like high-quality cold processed oils, nuts, avocado, coconut, etc., are the third essential part of our nutrition! Our brains contain 30% of fat. This is the opposite to what I learned in school: Carbohydrate does not keep us running, but fat does. Because a healthy body is a fat burning machine. Fat which is high on Omega 3 and 6 is the best fuel and brain food we can get. And different than what one might expect, fats DO NOT make you gain weight, at least as long as you don’t eat too much carbohydrate at the same time. The combination of fat and plenty of water supports your body to detox, by washing out the waste. This results in a clean skin.

Substantials of a Healthy Food Mix

  1. Protein: That’s so easy, if the majority of your food is vegetarian, like vegetables, salad, fruits, smoothies, you are already done! It is easy to digest, so you always got enough protein.
  2. Avoid sugar and deep-fried food, reduce carbohydrate, because it makes your body acid. A healthy body is alkaline and if you eat green food like vegetables and salad, all is good.

A diet like that is pretty easy! Apart from the health benefits, nowadays I feel as fit as I never felt before in my life. Plus it saves a lot of time and money. I reduced the cost of food and drinks about 30%. On top, I earned a lot of time because it is quick and easy to prepare.

Is it easy to follow the healthy food mix strictly?

That’s not necessary at all. I usually go for a “junk food day” on Saturdays. Which makes it really easy to stick to the diet for the rest of the week. On junk food day everything is allowed: carbohydrate, sugar, meat, deep fried food, drugs, alcohol, nicotine, and sex. Okay, I’m not so reserved with the latter anyway. But someday I definitely will write a blog about Tantric energy and its health benefits, probably called:
