1. Thinking Time: Gratitude, gratitude!
Why am I encouraging you, to practice gratitude every day?
Well, let me tell you a story: When I arrived in Bali for the first time
in October 2016, we had booked accommodation and scooters for 12 digital nomads.
And we arrived at our accommodation and everything was well. But, no scooters were there.
Well, with German thinking we thought: "The bloody Asians, they didn't get it organized!"
So, somebody from the group called the scooter rental agent.
And they said: "The scooters gonna arrive during the day, don't worry!"
About 2 hours later: The helmets were on the table and the keys right in front of them.
And no one of us did get to see somebody from the scooter rental company.
So they didn't ask us for:
- an imprint from the credit card
- no deposit
- not signing any kind of contract.
They didn't want to see our driver's license or our ID cards.
And I started thinking. I was deeply impressed! How come those people give us
so much credit, in terms of credibility? Without even knowing us foreigners from Europe. Well, it made me think!
And so, I started to observe:
- How do the Balinese live?
- And what do they think?
- What their values are?
And then I found they practice a gratitude ritual three times a day! And I think this ritual primes their mind. So, I found the Balinese are almost living a life without any fear! Even if this is probably not the complete answer. But I guess, that the gratitude ritual they do
- every morning,
- every midday,
- and every evening
is a good part of priming their mind, to live an almost fear-free life. And being able to give so much trust to foreigners. They believe in karma, they trust others, and that's what they get in return.
Back in the Western world, I almost experienced the opposite of it:
Everybody needs insurance for any bloody nonsense. We are chasing security and certainty ... And that costs a lot of your energy! I think: This ends up like living right in the center of scarcity!
How Gratitude gets you out of scarcity?
And I found: That practice helps you to get out of there! That's why you should write this
every day. And write down 5 things you are grateful for.
I was thinking for a long, long time this year about my purpose in life. And after six weeks of doing some research about
- my values and
- my purpose in life
I found out: That bringing gratitude to the Western world is just one part of what I'm here for. And so, that's why I keep asking and challenging you to write down 5 things you're grateful for every day.
So, go and get it done and enjoy the Challenge and become GRATEFUL! And get your mind out of scarcity to live an abundant life! To enjoy VITAL and HAPPY your LONGEVITY!
2. Write down five things you are grateful for:
1. I am grateful for ..., because ...
2. Further, I am grateful for ..., because ...
5. Finally, I am grateful for ..., because ...
Please remember that as your self-esteem grows, due to a feeling of gratitude, your feelings of helplessness and your fears disappear.
