Escape

escapeWhere is the largest prison in the world located?

Between the ears!

Yes, this prison is located in your and my head, the brain. Not laws, ordinances and rules hold us back, but only what we believe. Everything we think to know, we actually only believe. Let’s take a controversial example:

What do you know about Donald Trump?

Please answer honestly this question, before you scroll down and continue to read.

Did you think it through? Did you find out everything you think to know about him? If not, keep on think for a while before you scroll down and read on.

Now look at this, as the German publisher has translated the title of this book:

escape escape

  • Original: Think Big – Kick-Ass
Make it Happen in Business And Life
  • German translation: Nicht kleckern, klotzen
Der Wegweiser zum Erfolg – aus der Feder eines Milliadärs

Based on such translations, we believe to know something about Donald Trump. Ironically, the newspaper Bild had enough guts to translate the title with “Groß denken, Hintern treten!” And to be honest, I usually trust (belief) them the least. As you can see, believing means not knowing.

If you want to see it from another perspective, watch Leo’s video Mankind Is The Bullshitting Animal. It will inspire you to think about:

How am I full of shit …

  • with my spirituality?
  • with science?
  • when it comes to politics?
  • when it comes to family?
  • with my sexuality?

By the end, you can

Believe what you want

That’s the key to the prison:

Escape!

Sampoerna – My First Indonesian

After I booked my flight to Indonesia, I recalled, that my former boss Johannes asked me during a BBQ: “Do you remember Sabine?” – “Yes, certainly I do.” – “She moved to Bali.” – “Oh no, I didn’t know that” and the conversation about Sabine was over.

But recalling Johannes statement, I thought it would be great to meet Sabine, while I am in Bali. But I only recalled her name, Sabine. I had no contact details anymore, no old emails. All of this information was gone when I quit working for Johannes company.

My first Indonesia Trip

But thinking about it, I recalled that Sabine told me, that she wrote a book about managing the fear of flying. And so I asked Google to search for her book. I found the book “Flugangst”, her full name Sabine Engert, her webpage, and there was her email address. So I wrote her an email saying that Johannes told me about her living in Bali now, and about my planned trip to go there.

She responded within one day. And she was enthusiastic about me coming. She wrote: I am here already for 2 years and none of my German friends have visited me yet! I invite you to stay at my place. She even organized a driver to pick me up from the airport to bring me to her place.

Sabine, my first Indonesian point of contact

One of the first things Sabine asked me: “Klaus, I don’t remember if you smoke. Do you want an Indonesian cigarette? They are special, they have a clove aroma and the paper tastes sweet.” So I responded: “Usually I don’t, but I am always happy to try something special”. And so she shared one of her cigarettes with me.

Already with the first sip, I realized that I knew this special taste. It was on Christmas eve 1988 when I was on my first overseas trip. On a campground in Queensland in Australia, I met a German, who just came from Indonesia. He told about the wonderful atmosphere, low cost of living, how friendly and open-minded the Indonesians are, and how special the cigarettes taste. He brought some Sampoernas to Australia and shared them with me.

So I realized that I had a 28-year break between my first and my second Sampoerna experience!

Sampoerna, my first Indonesian cigarette

Since that day, it was a perfect way to enjoy the sunset at Echo beach with one Sampoerna, usually with a Bintang and spicy sweet corn from the BBQ.

Unfortunately, the number of Sampoerna’s increased over time. I kept having one with each Kopi Bali, after sex, when socializing, and even during my thinking time. Due to that, I lost the special feeling I had connected to the clove aroma and the sweet tasting paper. So I stopped smoking again because it was about to reduce my fitness and physical growth.

Sampoerna goes over the edge

That’s why I am limiting smoking Sampoernas only to my junk food day. And after sex, if my girlfriend enjoyed it too because that gives us an additional perfect way to connect.

By the way, the Indonesian word “sampoerna” just means “perfect”.

What is a Coworking Space?

What is a Coworking Space?

New coworking spaces are popping up all over the world

So here comes an explanation and definition: What is a Coworking Space?

What is a Coworking Space?

An office used by independent self-employed to create a creative environment and share facilities.

What are the benefits of a coworking space?

  • What is a Coworking Space?Sharing facilities and timeshare of its usage turns out to be cheaper for each individual than renting and setting up an own office. If it is not needed, it does not create any cost.
  • You don’t have to take care of the infrastructure yourself like printers, copy machines, and a good and fast internet connection.
  • Due to that, it provides an almost destruction free working, other than in a cafe shop or a restaurant. Plus they provide office chairs and tables, which are designed for working on a laptop computer
  • And it is a great place to meet like-minded entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and inspiration, team up for projects and join forces.

The most maluable asset is time

What is your most valuable asset?

While writing this, I am on the flight to Austin, Texas. I will participate in a seminar from Keith Cunningham. On the flight, I am listening to his book “The Road Less Stupid“. It inspired me to think about the most valuable asset. Which brought up this idea:

Sharing my thinking time about the most valuable asset with you, my dear!

What is the most valuable asset? It’s time!

Time is your most valuable assetTo do so,

– I will send you 2 to 3 times a week questions about a thinking time issue
– until the next day we collect our ideas
– on the third day, we evaluate the ideas and decide which one we are going to implement
– then it starts over again with the next issue

Due to being a big fan of simplicity, effectivity, and frugalism, I want to start with thinking about “saving time”. Because time is our most valuable resource. It creates space to do things, that improve your life, health, wealth, growth, vitality and happiness. So, saving time provides you with the biggest benefit. Apart from, if you are permanently bored. But I can’t see that risk in your case. Here are the thinking time questions for today:

  • What am I not doing anymore?
  • What would I recommend you, not to do anymore?
  • Which of my habits doesn’t produce results?

Find and share at least 3 ideas within the next 24 hours. Write down what comes spontaneously into your mind. Perfectionism is not an issue here. The more ideas the better. Spontaneous ideas need less time, so you are already implementing one time-saving method!

If you think you don’t have time for this exercise and taking care for your most valuable asset, means that you would have the biggest benefit from it! So, here are the questions, once again:

  • What am I not doing anymore?
  • What would I recommend you, not to do anymore?
  • Which of my habits doesn’t produce results?

My ideas about my most valuable asset are:

What am I not doing anymore?

  • Training up to 5 times a week. Only training 3 times a week, up to 1 h maximum with high intensity, e. g.
    • Cardio e.g. running, swimming cycling
    • Strengthning e. g. dumbles or weight liftig
    • Mindfullness e. g. yoga, streaching, tantric energy
  • Stop oversleeping, having 1 to 3 rests during the day, lifting night sleep to 6 h max
  • Working longer than 90 minutes continuously
  • Not writing blogs in German anymore, English only. Let Google translate it.
  • Having someone who does the German translation for me
  • Planing the outcome of tomorrow before I fall asleep. Then concentrate on the single most essential task

What would I recommend you, not to do anymore?

  • protect your most valuable assetClose the door behind you, when working.  And put an “ON AIR” sign with a sculp on the outside, e.g. while producing music, learning, writing or having your thinking time. So that nobody disturbs you and to avoid interruptions.
  • Only have those things on the table, I currently need to get my current job done.
  • Concentrate on a single task. No drinks, snacks, cigarettes while working. Nor playing with the smartphone, telephone calls, WA, FB, Emails while eating.

Which of my habits doesn’t produce results?

  • Instead of mentoring Chris individually, adding him to the mastermind
  • Not doing social media myself anymore
  • Removing those participants from the mastermind who don’t contribute

One member of the mastermind group came up with the following ideas:

  1. What am I not doing anymore?
Because someone knows more about a particular subject than I do, I would never assume their advice on that subject is right for me.
  2. What would I recommend you not to do anymore?
Do not talk about lack and limitations, unless you want more of the same
  3. What am I doing due to a habit which doesn’t produce results?
Complaining about the changes in my company

Another member came up with these thoughts:

  • What am I not doing anymore?
  1. Let me persuade to dispose of any rubbish from tenants or the like.
    • Listen to boring stories of things that I do not really care about. (Keep your hard drive clean and clean.)
    • Do not feed your mind with any junk you do not care about, a quote from the series “Elementary” (Sherlock Holmes).
    • Endless phone calls with interested customers lead but, as quickly as possible but also as necessary, come to the point and arrange a visit.
    • pointless visits reduce Ala “I wanted to stop by”
    • waste (personal) too much time with Instagram etc.
    • Expand email templates to save time when answering emails
  2. What do you recommend to me to stop doing?
    • Check out what’s fun and then stop doing things that make you unhappy
    • To deal with Apple devices: D
    • Possibly. also from other digital things that will kill you like Newsletter2go etc.
  3. What do I do out of habit, which brings no results?
    • To be the good-natured one
    • Do things quickly and in between that just distract me
    • Listening to stories that do not interest me in principle

Analyzing Results of SEO Activities

It is time to check for the results of SEO activities of my blogs. Probably you were curious, why I chose the almost misleading title How to Ruin Someone’s Life or Business for one of my blogs. The reason for it was, some considerations about the search engine optimization (SEO) for this blog. First I was checking the most frequently used keywords in my initial text. I found out that

  • business,
  • competition, and
  • damage

were the most frequently used ones. So I put them in Google Adds keyword planner and played around with some phrases that contained these words.

results of SEO activities

One suggested phase was: “How to Ruin Someone’s Life”. It is getting searched between 1.000 and 10.000 times a month and has a low competition. Further, I considered this issue as controversial enough, that it has the chance to go viral. And many people will read it. And – hopefully – benefit from it. So without doing anything bad to the competition, I implemented both of my ideas from my thinking time in this blog.

Results of SEO Activities

Three months after publishing this blog, I analyzed with Google Webmaster Tools the results of SEO activities. So I can find out, which of my pages and blogs are appearing the most frequently in the google search results.

results of SEO activities

And in the results of SEO activities it turned out, that the blog How to Ruin Someone’s Life or Business appeared most frequently! It also had a relatively high click rate of more than 5%.

results of SEO activities

Then I switched to Google Analytics to dig some deeper into the results of SEO activities. Plus I learned, that the visitors of this blog stayed about 6 minutes in average. This is about 78% above the average time of the entire webpage. This easily lasts, to read all of it.

results of SEO activities

But Google Analytics also shows, that almost all visitors left my blog after reading it, without referring to any other page. This means, I am loosing nearly all of the traffic, this blog creates. So, I learned that I need to make the text more appealing to make them curious and keep on reading. And that I need to offer more value for the visitors of the blog, by adding links to other related issues on my webpage. How to Make or Take a Decision?

‘We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them’ by Albert Einstein

From time to time people experience a hard time to make or take a decision. Why? Whenever I got a hard time to take a decision, it is for some reason. Psychologists usually say: It is due to some kind of depression as the underlying cause. Then they want to treat the depression, which can take years. I am rather looking for a solution. Due to the fact, that all unanswered questions are called problems, my approach is:

Problems can only be solved
on a higher level than they appear

Imagine you see the urge to save somebody’s life, who fell into the pool and can’t swim. You don’t need to think twice. If you are a good swimmer, you will jump into the water as well. If not you might hold out for something that swims, e. g. a rescue ring or a rubber duck. Sitting down, being depressed about it and having a cigarette, while thinking what to do, is no option. Your basic need of contribution is so strong, that it hardly feels like a decision at all.

Some people keep sitting for more than 10 minutes in a restaurant reading the menu. Not because it is such an exciting story. They are just not clear what they should eat. Not being clear about, shall I save some money and choose the cheapest. Or shall I treat myself with the most plenty full food on the menu? Nor being clear if valuing healthy food over junk food, makes it almost impossible to decide. Also, no clarity about the value of money or health leads into this situation.

Time to treat the underlying depression.
Come on, this is complete bullshit!

Someone who is for whatever reason on a special diet, and got due to this a limited variety of food to choose from, got a much easier time to decide. There are some constraints guiding him through the menu. Just choosing what fits the best, and then maybe asking the waiter: “Is it free of gluten or lactose?” Done! It shows that he is clear on his values and that he values health over (saving) money.

Are you clear on your targets, mission, vision, and dreams? If I am having trouble to decide, I know that I am not clear on some of them. Let’s have a look into some examples:

Make or take a decision example 1

Should I still add musicians to my Facebook contacts, or only female entrepreneurs? This means I am not focussed on one of my business Rooms4Music or Vitality4Happiness. Due to that, I can understand, that the requirements to serve both of them are pulling me in different directions. Just a strategic question, which can (only) be solved on a higher level.

Time to think about my mission and take a decision! Easy decision after thinking about this for a short time: My mission is: I am vitality for happiness. Some of my highest values are health, love, happiness – which is caused by growth – and contribution. Plus I love woman and entrepreneurship! My customers from Rooms4Music are musicians, mostly male, no entrepreneurs. Most of them play their music for pleasure and don’t want to grow with it. And finally, health is completely out of their focus.

Make or take a decision example 2

Shall I organize business retreats or just invest in some business and then mentor the entrepreneurs I am invested in? It makes me aware, that I am not clear on the strategy, how to grow the business.

I need to clarify the next higher level, my mission. My mission doesn’t help at this point. So let’s go one level further up. My vision is to see the hunger in the world disappear. And I want to contribute to it. The quicker I invest the more I can contribute. The business retreats might delay this process. So I should rather invest first, and then do the business retreats for those who I am already invested in. Helping them to run their business more efficiently, so that we jointly can contribute more. Thinking it that way, it becomes rather clear how to tune the strategy.

Make or take a decision example 3

Do I want to stay in Bali or keep on traveling around the world? Here I can see, something is conflicting within my basic needs. So this can (only) be solved, by looking into my values.

I learned something new about my values in a mastermind group, in which all of the participants guessed the primary value of the others. Most of the guesses where pretty accurate and in accordance with what they thought about themselves. With the exception of me! Everybody said, that my first value is freedom. Freedom didn’t even appear on my list! So I realized, that I am already living this value, that I don’t see it anymore as my value. And yes, I got aware that it is my very first value. So please don’t ask me for an everlasting monogamous relationship! Being aware of that, it becomes easy to say bye bye to Bali. At least from time to time for a trip around the world.

The hierarchical order of these levels

  • Vision or dream: Making the world or universe a better place
  • Mission or targets: Contribution to those around you
  • Strategy or plan: Individual needs, growth, success, adventure
  • Basic needs and values: Security, survival, love, and connection

To do: Your make or take a decision exercise

I want you to have an easier time, to make or take a decision in the future. To get there, I am asking you to understand and practice the mechanism behind this. Here comes my thinking time for you. Analyze this question:

“Which of my products should I do the most intensive marketing for?”

Have a look at these products

Then come back to this page and answer the following questions:

  • On which level does this question show, that I am not clear?
  • What is the level above?
  • What needs to to be clarified?
  • How would you recommend to solve it?

Please write your thoughts and recommendations in the comments below. You can show your expertise. And if you thought all the way through it, that you can write down the answer in a few sentences, you have learned the most. Plus you are earning a backlink to your webpage, which even increases your web page ranking on google. Btw. here you can learn more about SEO.

And keep solving your problems by answering your questions on a higher level than they appear!

How I Fucked up Cape Town Marathon 2018

Klaus Forster's Qualification for Cape Town Marathon 2018After being able to finish the Tahura trail run in Bandung on Java in Indonesia, I was pretty confident that I was ready to run the Cape Town Marathon 2018 with 56 km in South Africa.

Cape Town Marathon 2018 Qualification

Tahura trail was my first trail competition. And I completely underestimated the challenge! Either it went uphill or downhill, hardly any flat sections along the way. Parts of it were so muddy that one had to slip down on 4 legs. My last marathon in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2016 took me 4:04 hours.

Cape Town Marathon 2018 Qualification

Qualification for Cape Town Marathon 2018

So I expected to finish the trail in less than 5 hours to qualify for the Cape Town Marathon 2018. But it took me 2/3 of the distance to make me believe that I can make it at all. I reached km 28 after 5:30 hours and finished after 9:18 hours as the 112th male finisher. Only 12 minutes before the cut off time.

Training Interruption for Cape Town Marathon 2018

Cape Town Marathon 2018

Due to a problem with my bank, I had to go to Germany during the preparation phase. A trip, that I didn’t do by heart. So it did cost me quite a bit of my energy. Visiting my parents, I got spoiled with delicious German food, which actually did not apply to my food plan.

But there was so delicious German food to choose from. Food I grew up with, and which I did not enjoy for a long time. So I got pretty undisciplined and enjoyed the sausages, cake, beef, pork, Döner 🥙 Bread and of cause some of the great German beers 🍻

My Excuses Not to Train for Cape Town Marathon 2018

Cape Town Marathon 2018

The outside temperatures were about 7 degrees below the freezing point. Within the 3 weeks in Germany, gained about 3 kg because I did very little training for Cape Town Marathon 2018. My excuse to get out of bed was: It is too cold.

Cape Town Marathon 2018

My problem was: I did not have a coach who kicked my ass. I was not able to motivate myself, to get out of bed and go running. Especially when the temperature was below the freezing point. And I had no one who was able to read what was written on my forehead, which I wasn’t able to se

Being on the Cape Town Marathon 2018, I only managed 42 km.

Sad Mood - Snap out of it

Sad Mood – Snap out of it

Sad mood?

Sad Mood - Snap out of itThe weekend is always a good time to look back on your achievements during the last week. Yesterday I had an emotionally pretty shitty day with a sad mood. 🤬 I think that happens to everyone once in a while. So my question was: How to snap out of it?

I realized that I needed to snap out of it. To get rid of my sad mood, I analyzed the best decisions in my life. Actually, the most of them where pretty hard to make. And I came up with a list of 13 decisions, I made in the past. First of all, I added all of them to my success journal. Doing so gave me back a lot of my energy. Because it made me aware, that oneself puts down the seeds for one’s successes!

To snap out of it

I want to encourage you, to think about the best decisions in your life. And to write them down. If you are smarter than me, and I guess that you are,  you will do it, before you get into a sad mood. Because it doesn’t need a bad day to do so, it actually should be much easier to do it on a good day. 😆 But if you are already in a sad mood, this exercise will help you to snap out of it!

I came up with a list of my best decisions:

As a second step to snap out of it

Change your sad mood into energy

Bring the list in of your best decisions a sequence. That should be pretty easy. My list looks like that now:

  • 2008 getting divorced
  • 2009 founding Rooms4Music
  • 2011 reading 📖 “Der Weg zum erfolgreichen Unternehmer”
  • 2012 focusing on health as my #1 value
  • 2013 visiting Tony Robbins seminars
  • 2014 visiting Bodo Schäfer Seminars
  • 2015
    • monogamy is a fallacy
    • selling my house in Ludwigsburg, Germany
  • 2016
    • putting money on the stock market
    • participating in the workation in Bali
    • spending the majority of my time in Bali
  • 2017
    • leaving Germany and moving to Hanoi
    • putting Rooms4Music in Chris’s hands
  • 2018 bringing Rooms4Music back onto the success path and cutting costs

Now it becomes a bit more difficult, but it is an effective

Treatment of a sad mood, to snap out of it:

Analyze if you can see a pattern, which carried from one decision to the next, from one level of your development to the next higher level. I found it helps if you add the outcome of your decisions to the list.

  • 2008 getting divorced = Found the love of my life and shared the best years of my life with her.
  • 2009 founding Rooms4Music = becoming independent from my job in 2012 and living entrepreneurial freedom
  • 2011 reading 📖 “Der Weg zum erfolgreichen Unternehmer” = turning my self-employment into a self-running enterprise
  • 2012 focusing on health as my #1 value = discovered running as my new passion, started yoga and improved my movability and flexibility especially in my mind

The biggest change in my mindset and to snap out of it was

  • 2013 visiting Tony Robbins seminars = understood the psychology of people better, especially my own, I realized that freedom (of mind, traveling, sexual, financial) is my highest value
  • 2015
    • visiting Bodo Schäfer Seminars = developed my plan for financial freedom, an investment strategy, and  asset allocation
    • selling my house in Ludwigsburg, Germany = became financially independent
    • monogamy is a fallacy = freedom of mind, sexual freedom, much more relaxed and natural relationships with women, sharing and enjoying more tantric energy than I ever dreamed of
  • 2016
    • putting money on the stock market =
      • I started trading and becoming an investor,
      • started to enjoy the volatility of the market.
      • Finally, I learned to stay calm, if the market is going against my expectation and
      • becoming financially independent.
    • participating in the workation in Bali = falling in love with Bali and the idea of working location independent
    • spending the majority of my time in Bali = living my dream and making 2017 the best year of my life
  • 2017
  • 2018 bringing Rooms4Music back onto the success path and cutting costs. =
    • Making 2018 to the most successful year in terms of
      • turnover,
      • profit and as a result of that

Prevention of sad mood

Now comes the real challenge:

After you did this analysis, extrapolate to the next decision. That will carry you to the next level of your development. Chose one or two new ones, which is the most charming for you, and take a decision. This will help you to prevent you from getting into a sad mood. I am not promising you, that you will never ever get back into a sad mood again. But as long as you got clarity of your direction due to your decision, it is pretty unlikely to fall back into it. If it still appears, it just means, you are not focussing on it anymore, or it is time to go through the procedure once again.

If you want some more background information and inspiration for that, listen to

That will give you some understanding of how it psychologically works and encourage you to take the next step. But you don’t need to understand it, to use the procedure. Likewise, you don’t need to understand how a gearbox works, to be able to drive a car.

For me the next decisions are:

  • living a happy vital life of physical and mental fitness of 150+ years
  • developing Rooms4Music into a 10.000.000 € company

Remember, not achievement, but

Steady growth is the source of everlasting happiness!
