I Think About You And Me

I keep reminding you of thinking time, and you probably think: “I read that already a few times. Why are you bothering me with the same issue again and again?” –  “Well, I Think About You And Me.”

And there is more to think about than you might expect:

  1. Did you do your thinking time today, yesterday and the day before?
  2. Could you come up with some new questions?
  3. Did you do your thinking time perfectly?

I Think About You And Me, so let’s look at it in detail:

1. Did you do your thinking time today, yesterday and the day before?

I Think About You And MeSee, it is good that I keep reminding you. You didn’t build a habit yet, which is usually the case after 3-4 weeks of daily repetition. Probably you are not there, yet. But it is not a long way that requires discipline (= self-love) to get there. My reminders shall help you through this first month. Then the habit will make you do it automatically by yourself on 6 out of 7 days. On the 7th day, you still need a kick in your ass, as a reminder. Or you just take the deserved break from it. How about reading your answers on the seventh day, and ticking those answers, which you already implemented in your life? And celebrate your success!

2. I Think About You And Me: Did you come up with some new questions?

Who asks better questions get better answers! So when I Think About You And Me, I want to encourage you to spend some thinking time on better or modified questions.

For example, you might modify the question:

  • What would I do today if I died tomorrow?

like this:

  • What would I do this week, if I died next week?
  • Or what would I do this month, if I died next month?
  • You might even go for the long run: What would I do this year, if I died next year?

Just reading this, you can already feel the power of the different perspective! So go and change your questions to whatever serves you best.

3. I Think About You And Me: Did you do your thinking time perfectly?

Thinking time is not about a perfect process, even if I keep describing the process mostly. It is about effectiveness. Effectiveness is measured by results.

So the question when I Think About You And Me is:

  • Which of the ideas, actions, efforts, habits, … I was thinking about, are showing the biggest progress towards my dreams and targets?

Most people tend to do things perfectly. I know what I am talking about, I am German! Perfectionism is a stereotype of Germans (Japanese and Singaporeans, as well ;-). This is a wonderful thing in developing great products, but it is a burden in terms of effectiveness!

Once again: Thinking time is about producing results, with the actions you take based on it:

“Effectiveness” is NOT Efficiency

Doing your thinking time-efficient would mean, you get it done in the shortest time thinkable: zero time. Nothing would be worse than that!

If I Think About You And Me, we should rather think about effectiveness:

Which of my ideas, actions, efforts, habits, … are showing NO results towards my dreams and targets? And as a consequence: Get rid of those tasks. Thinking about this for one hour, to finding only one thing, which keeps you busy for 30 minutes a day, and which creates no progress. This would be wonderful. Even if you lose half an hour on the first day, it will save you 3.5 hours a week. If you subtract the invested hour of thinking time, you still gained 2.5 hours. This is a return on investment of 250%  already within the first week. Oh, women, I would love to have a savings account like that! Did you get no ideas, how to save 30 minutes a day?

I Think About You, so let me inspire you:

  • Sleeping time
  • Transferring tasks to kids, partner, friends, assistants, cooking, GO-JEK services like a car wash, cleaning, shopping, …
  • Listen to learning programs (audiobooks) during driving
  • Modeling ideas instead of reinventing everything yourself
  • Stop watching television, some people may save 1 to 4 hours a day!
  • Avoid traveling by car during peak traffic, by scheduling your dates and working time around it.

BTW – When I Think About You: Personal development is, to have better communication with yourself. And your thinking-time is pure conscious communication with yourself! If you do not have anything to think about, just answer those questions as today’s thinking time:

I Dreamed a Dream

I Dreamed a Dream: Speed vs. Direction

Most of the time we are in a hurry to make faster progress

I dreamed a dream, but in which direction am I running?

Often we consider speed as more essential than direction. If speed is more quintessential than direction, we most likely will be ending up earlier in a situation we don’t want! That’s why I keep doing the following exercise over and over again, on average about once a month.

“What is the target you really want to reach?”

You might think: “I dreamed a dream”, but be honest with yourself, dig deeper into what is missing the most in your life, what do you dream of? Make your dream bigger, make it amazingly big. Imagine your dream in blooming colors, turn it into a target by writing it down as precise as possible, be specific, put a date, a value, numbers, and facts to it to turn it into a target, because dreams are fiction, targets are a fixed point. The sharper your description is, the better it guides you toward its way.

To do so, put yourself in a cozy position. Have something ready to write it down, listen to some inspiring music or choose complete quietness. If it helps you to think freely, choose a point with a good view into the distance, over the ocean, which represents your future, e.g. at the beach, from a balcony, a mountain, an elevated outlook point, …

Give yourself as much time as it needs, at least one hour on your own. There is no rush to find your target. Think, imagine, and write it down, keep on writing until you cannot describe it any more precise and blooming. If you think you are finished, ask yourself:

“And what do I want beyond that?”

Write it all down. Writing it in the mobile phone notes app works the best for me, because I have it always with me, and I can re-read it each time I am relaxing, want to refocus or when I have the feeling I might get off track. Additionally, I can re-edit it,  to increase its attractiveness by describing it even more blooming and colorful. By doing so I stay focused and my fix point becomes more energy.

I am not promising you that just thinking about it will bring your there, you got to take action! Just running without a target lets you run very efficiently in circles, never bringing you to the point where you want to be. But taking action after thinking about your dream and focusing on your target, helps you to take more effective steps.

Nor I promise you that you will have the everlasting ultimate pleasure of achieving your target. But the good news is:

You shall have a lot of fun already on the way
because happiness is based on growth!

Self Limiting Beliefs – How to Overcome a Self Limiting Belief

Our brains are full of Self Limiting Beliefs.

How to identify them and get the Self Limiting Beliefs out of your mind?


Awareness is always the first step Overcoming Self Limiting Beliefs

And then it hurts! Why?

Because learning always goes in 4 steps:

  1. Unconscious Incompetence: I don’t know, that I don’t know – being stupid, but still happy
  2. Conscious Incompetence: I am aware that I don’t know (growth pain)
  3. Conscious Competence: I learned my lesson and can apply it, if I concentrate on it
  4. Unconscious Competence: I have embodied it and I do it automatically

Getting awareness is the step from

But you ask the right questions:

2. What do I need to learn to Overcoming Self Limiting Beliefs?

Find a way to replace a limiting belief with a helpful one: Tell yourself exactly the opposite of it to overwrite it. One needs to replace it. Because only deleting it hardly ever works. Just try strop drinking, smoking, eating unhealthy food. There is hardly a chance to succeed if one does not replace it with a new pleasant habit.
The new beneficial belief can be programmed in your subconscious mind e.g. with incantations:

Another possibility is mind storming: Write the new belief on a paper and write below it:
… all the way to
And find 50 examples, stories, ideas, … that prove that the new beneficial belief is correct. That can take a week or two. And that is good! Because it keeps your mind focussed for a long time on the new belief until your subconscious does not doubt it anymore. So it will attract more of it in the future.

3. How to manage the growth-pain while Overcoming Self Limiting Beliefs?

The pain is not pleasant, but it is a strong driver to get you going. But in the long run, you need pleasure to keep you on track and to enjoy your journey.
