Delivery: Decision-Making Meditations

Are you aware, that brain scans show:

The way we try to understand the world logically rests on a fallacy!

We are no thinking-machines, we are feeling-machines! Research shows that all decisions are emotional and intuitive in the beginning. And especially in complex environments, these decisions are mostly much better than so-called “rational” decisions, which are in fact emotional ones, as well. Later, our rational mind constructs a justification for maintaining your ego. In other words: To protect your own self-image. This has its great strength in simple situations with few influencing factors, which have a linear relationship and have a non-chaotic character, like 1 + 2 = 3.

However, as soon as decisions need to be taken in more complex situations, your intuition is overwhelmingly superior. And you, as an entrepreneur, got to make the most decisions of relevance in situations, where you neither can get all relevant information, nor having an equation to calculate the result. An easy way to access the power of your intuition is meditations. Here are 4 meditations for your easy decision-making in complex situations, such as a crisis.

The introduction to all meditations is the same. This is not laziness on my part, but has a simple reason: The more often we do something, the more automatic it becomes. Due to that, the more often you repeat the same introduction at the start of your meditation, the deeper and faster you will get into it. And the better the results become. If you have never meditated before having a look at this: How to meditate by Leo Gura It is important that you start with an open mind, about the situation in which you need to decide. And in which you still do not know what you want to do. I experienced it again and again that entrepreneurs, who go through these meditations suddenly can see clearly what they want, including myself. And as soon as that happens, there is no need for this kind of meditation anymore: But then it is time to take action instead. After you are aware of the right decision for you, make an action plan, and go for it! During the four parts of the decision making meditation, you will be in four different situations. Take notes after every meditation what you have – seen, – heard, and – felt. Apparently, feelings are the most important! Especially men are usually not so sensitive about acknowledging their feelings. But feelings express our intuition. And intuition shows us the way to our

  • Vision,
  • Mission,
  • Targets, and
  • Values.

It is important that you make your decision only in the fourth decision making meditation! The first three of the decision-making meditations are just the preparation for it. It’s essential to honor all of the possibilities unconditionally in the beginning. Further, it is essential, that you do not choose any of the options during the first three ones! Only if we decide, while being aware of all the options we got, our decisions get real power.

Procedure:

  1. Write down the decision situation and the question about it, that come into your mind.
  2. Go through the first meditation and as soon as you finished it, write down what you have
    • seen,
    • heard, and
    • felt.
  3. Prepare the second meditation by encountering your 3 most important life targets. And make sure, that those life targets are based on your values.
  4. Go into the second meditation. When you are done with it, write down what you have
    • seen,
    • heard, and
    • felt.
  5. Prepare the third meditation by choosing a role model. Someone you look up to and respect as your mentor. Because this mentor has already reached your life targets, lives your values or someone who has embodied your vision or mission in life. This can be a fictitious or real person, alive or already dead. If your basic motive is adventure is, then you can choose Richard Branson. If your basic motive is kindness, then Mother Teresa. And if your basic motive is immeasurable wealth, then Dagobert Duck.
  6. Go into the third meditation. Thereafter write down what you have
    • seen,
    • heard, and
    • felt.
  7. Go to the fourth meditation. Take the decision! And write down what you have
    • seen,
    • heard, and
    • felt.

Meditation on the corporate vision

This meditation can be used in two ways.

  • If you have no vision for your business yet, then you can use this meditation to develop a vision.
  • If you have one, then you can use this meditation to anchor and refine it. You do not need any further preparation, just something to write to take notes as soon as you are done, of what you experienced during the meditation.

Meditation to your favorite people

The idea is simple: We can easiest maintain our focus when our emotions want to keep it up. And that is most likely to happen when we love the people we work for: Our customers. And that is most likely to happen when our customers are similar to the people we love anyway. However, this does not work via abstract attributions like: “I love independent, smart people”. Simply, because that’s too blurred, it is a distanced description, and not emotional enough: You know what happens when you search for independent and smart employees in a job offer 😉

That’s why we go over specific people with a name, a face, to whom we got a personal relationship with. If you say: I love People like Sheela or Mat, then you have a picture in mind. You know intuitively exactly whether the person in front of you is like Sheela or Mat. That’s much clearer! Only afterward we try with a target group description, to develop your perfect customer image. But it is central that you avoid these abstractions during the meditation. Because it is only possible for concrete people, with faces, emotions, personality, and character! This meditation should rarely be used. Because sometimes people appear during this meditation, that you do not want to turn up. But therein lies a message. As long as you have not understood this message, you should not perform this meditation again. My best advice: Accept without judgment whatever appears to you during the meditations!

Decision-Making Meditation 1

Consultation For a Good Friend

Sit down in a lotus position, or on a chair with your back upright and your legs shoulder-wide apart. Or if you have a bed, a sofa, or a mat nearby, just lie on your back and close your eyes. Now, I will lead you into meditation. If your thoughts differ, that’s not a bad thing. Just watch it, put a mental label on it: “Deviated”. And then go back to the last thought.

Now observe, how your breath slowly flows out of you and slowly flows into you. Very deep from the belly, out of you, and deep inside you. Breathe in, hold your breath for a moment, and breathe out. Inhale, hold your breath, exhale. Inhale, hold, exhale.

Now concentrate on your legs and feel how they become warm and heavy. Feel how your legs become very warm and very heavy.

Now concentrate on your arms and feel how they too become warm and heavy. Feel how your arms become very warm and very heavy.

Now concentrate on your face and feel how all the tension is gone. And feel how your face becomes very soft and very peaceful.

You are now standing at the top of a staircase. And slowly descend it. While I’m slowly counting from 10 to 0. You sink deep an deeper into a pleasant state of relaxation. Relax! Whenever I say relax, you fall into this deep state of relaxation.

10 You go down the stairs.

9 You sink deeper and deeper into a pleasant state of relaxation.

7 The sounds around you disappear. And you only pay attention to your body and to my voice.

6 You relax deeper and deeper.

5 You keep declining the stairs.

You stand on a green meadow and enjoy the colors. The sun is shining. It is warm and the birds are chirping. You walk slowly along the meadow, you enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Everything seems familiar and well known to you. And you just feel good in the bright glow of the warm sun.

On the very horizon, you can see a mountain range. You walk slowly towards it and enjoy the landscape around you. The country is gradually becoming hilly and the mountain range is getting closer and bigger. Little by little you climb higher and higher and discover the highest mountain. Slowly but purposefully, you climb up to the summit. As you get higher and higher, the air becomes clearer. And you can always see further. You occasionally see an eagle circling high above you. You feel free The summit is getting closer and closer. You finally reached the top and take a look around. It seems to you as if you can look infinitely far in all directions. The air is so clear. The sun warms your skin.

Suddenly your best friend is standing next to you. He or she is facing the same question you are facing. Help her or him by sharing your thoughts about the question. But make sure that your friend appreciates all possibilities. Your friend won’t decide yet. Now let your thoughts run freely. Let them come and go like the gentle wind around you. And share all thoughts with her or him. I’ll be back in 10 minutes.

Say goodbye to your friend now. You look around again and absorb the freedom and space. Then you slowly begin the descent. Finally, you got back down there.

You are now on a green meadow again. The colors shine and the sun warms you. It is pleasantly warm and the birds are chirping. Now you’re slowly going back to your stairs. You climb the stairs while I count from 1 to 10.

1 You climb the stairs.

3 You feel your arms and legs again.

4 You climb higher and higher.

5 You notice the sounds around you again.

6 You are becoming more and more awake.

7 You can feel and move your arms and legs again.

8 You climb the stairs further.

9 When I get to 10, you’re wide awake again. And you write down every detail of what you heard and felt.

10 You are wide awake, open your eyes, and write down every detail that you heard and felt.

Decision-Making Meditation 2

Your Goals in Life

After a while, you will come to a path. The path is lined by flowers and bushes. You absorb the smell and enjoy the buzz of the bees. You follow the path and are curious where it will lead you. After a while, you will come to a junction from which three paths branch off. You are curious and just take the path on the far left. You walk the path a bit and at the end of the path, you see how you have achieved your first goal in life. How does your decision situation feel before your first goal in life? Feel inside of yourself, but don’t make a decision.

You slowly return to the crossroads and take the middle path. After a while, you will see at the end of this path how you have achieved your second goal in life. How does your decision situation feel, considering your second goal in life? Feel deep inside yourself, but make no-decision.

You slowly go back to the intersection and now take the last, the right way. After a while, you will see at the end of the way how you have achieved your third goal in life. How does your decision situation feel before your third goal in life? Feel deep inside yourself again, but still make no-decision.

You slowly come back to the crossroads. From there you hike the path you came back to the green meadow.

You watch the odd animals you see. And you stop by streams and ponds and admire the lightning-fast, shiny fish in the water. You go on and finally come to the sea, to a beautiful white beach. You take off your shoes. Then you feel the sand under your feet and smell the smell of the lake tank in your nose. And you let the waves play around your legs.

In the distance, on the horizon, you can see the tip of a sail. As you get closer, you first see the whole sail, and finally the hull of the boat. The boat is coming right at you. Now you can even hear the seagulls circling the ship screeching. The ship anchors near the shore. A person gets out and rows towards you in a small dinghy. When this person finally stands in front of you, you recognize your role model in this person. Your role model now tells you what she or he would do in this situation. But your role model won’t make a decision either. You carefully keep listening to her or him.

You say thank you. And finally, you say goodbye to your role model. He or she returns to the ship and disappears with the ship on the horizon. after a last look into the distance, you turn around and return.

Decision-Making Meditation 4: Your Last Hour

In the distance, you can see a small house. It is white and has only a small door and a window. It’s that small. You’re walking towards it slowly. You know it’s the last place you’ll go in your life. And you want to savor everything again. When the time comes, you open the door and look into the small room. In the middle is a bed with white sheets on it. You lie down in it. There are some candles around you. The candles symbolize the alternatives you have. One possibility on the right, the other on the left. You look around and see a clock. It shows 11 p.m. Gradually all the dear people from your life come in the door and you say goodbye to them. You take time for each one, out of respect and gratitude for coming. And you know, sometimes in an hour, it happens more than in 10 years. You are thankful for the beautiful life that you have had and have no regrets. You have no regrets because you have always made the right decisions for yourself. And if you were wrong, you could learn from it. You can see the clock on the wall and it is now five to twelve. Now is the time to make your decision. Which decision do you wish to have made in your decision situation? Now decide at your own pace. At 12 noon your head will tilt to one side and look at one of the two candles. This is the option you choose. Record this moment, absorb everything, every feeling, every sound, every image that comes into your mind. Once you’ve made your decision, head back to the stairs at your own pace. Climb it up. And then write down everything you saw and felt. And then act on it!

Favorite People Meditation

In the distance, you can see a large house or a villa. As you walk towards it, you know it’s your house. You slowly approach it and you take the shape and its color. You keep approaching. You cross the garden and finally stand in front of a large entrance door. It leads up a wide staircase, very slowly you climb up and go to the front door and open it.

You come into a big bright room. There you look around and discover things in the room that remind you of the time 5 years ago. You continue to look around and discover things and images that remind you of the time 10, 15, and 20 years ago. You look up further and finally discover things that you have almost forgotten. And which reminds you of your youth and childhood.

While you are still looking around the room, you hear voices from outside. You get really curious about who might come. And you try to identify the voices. Finally, the first person you liked or loved comes in through the front door. You warmly greet this person with a hug.

Then a second person comes from a completely different time. Maybe from a completely different place. You also warmly greet this person with a hug. A smile flits over your face and you greet this person by name.

Finally, a third person comes in, a fourth, a fifth. Gradually, the room fills up more and more with people you liked or like, who you loved or love. People you liked to be with or are with. You greet each one by name and warmly welcome all these people. You enjoy having all these lovely people gathered around you. And you see the smile on their faces. More and more people are coming in.

You greet each one by name. After a while, you look around and find surprised that there are already more than 20 people in the room. You know the name of every single person. This is important and the expression of your personal appreciation for these people.

If there are people in the room that you don’t really want there, just let it happen. And if there are missing people you would like to have with you, do not try to force it. Allow that too.

You see an inviting door in the background of the room. You go through this door and come into a small beautiful room. It is something like the heart of your house. You only come here on very special occasions, and here you only receive very special people. You know, such a moment has come now.

You look again in the big room and ask the person you gave the most or give the most to you in your very special room. Try not to control it, take the person who separates himself from the group of others. Now sit down and talk to this person. What did you like to do? Why did you give? And what did the person appreciate about it? Listen and let it happen. Maybe you will go on another journey together with this person. I will now leave you alone for some time for your very personal conversation.

Now say goodbye to this person, bring her or him to the door. Now please another person from the large anteroom in your special room. Take the person with whom you have or have had the most joy in your life. Don’t try to control it. Take the person who separates her or himself from the group of others. Now sit down with the second person and talk to her or him. What did you like to do? Whereby you had or have fun together? Listen and just let it happen. Perhaps you will also go from this room together for another trip to another place. I will leave you alone for a while now.

Now say goodbye to the second person and bring her or him to the door. Please have the third person in your room. Take the person you loved the most or love into your special room. Attempts cannot be checked. Take the person who separates himself from the group of others. Now sit down and talk to this person. What did you like to do? Why did you love or love her? Listen and let it happen. Maybe you will go on another trip together to another place or another room with your love. I will leave you alone for a while now.

Say goodbye to this last person. Then go back to the large entrance hall. Thank them all for coming and now say goodbye to everyone. After you are alone again, you look around again. Then you leave the house too. You feel lucky that these people were or are in your life. With this feeling of happiness, you slowly walk back to the green meadow.

Vision Meditation

Slowly you stroll along the meadow, you enjoy life. There are a few trees and you can also see some animals. In the distance, you can see a house. Intuitively, you know, it’s the house of your future. You are slowly approaching your house. You perceive the color, the roof, the windows, and the entrance. In front of it is a staircase that you go up. You are moving closer and closer to your house. And finally, you enter your house.

You look around inside of your house. You finally find your bedroom and lie down in your bed. It’s getting dark and you fall asleep. You sleep soundly, you sleep long, very long. Slowly a soft voice drinks to your ear: “It’s a wonderful day today, do you want to get up?” With your eyes closed, you know that something fundamental has changed. You suddenly notice the smell of fresh tea. Your first glance falls on a little robot that serves your breakfast. You have never seen him before. Another look falls on the calendar. You are somewhat surprised to find that you woke up in the summer of 2050. But at the same time, this also seems very natural to you. You get up and hear the robot voice again: “I feel that you are happy, it will be 27 ° warm today. Do you want something colorful and light to wear?” You slowly get up and get dressed. You leave the bedroom, the robot follows you and asks: “Do you want to know the important news?” You shake your head and say, “No, I want to go to my customers and my company today. Are you driving me there?” The robot opens the door and accompanies you to an unusual looking vehicle. You get in, take a view out of the window, and look forward to a wonderful, interesting day in your company. You will see the building. You will meet employees. You will also visit customers. And you will find out what your customers want and feel. You will find out what your company is doing. I will leave you alone now. Then you will also learn, why everyone who has something to do in your company is proud of your company. And finally, you will find out why your company will make a difference in people’s lives in the future. I’m leaving you alone now.

You are now back in your house. And you are tired of this exciting day in your company, impressions, and experiences. You immediately go to bed, fall asleep, sleep soundly. You feel that something fundamental has changed again. And when you wake up and take look on the calendar, you find that you are back in the present. You get up rested, you get dressed, and leave the house, and walk back the way you came.
