Self Limiting Beliefs – How to Overcome a Self Limiting Belief

Our brains are full of Self Limiting Beliefs. How to identify them and get the Self Limiting Beliefs out of your mind?

Because learning always goes in 4 steps:

  1. Unconscious Incompetence: I don’t know, that I don’t know – being stupid, but still happy
  2. Conscious Incompetence: I am aware that I don’t know (growth pain)
  3. Conscious Competence: I learned my lesson and can do if I concentrate on it
  4. Unconscious Competence: I have embodied it and I do it automatically

Getting awareness is the step from

2. What do I need to learn to Overcoming Self Limiting Beliefs?

Find a way to replace a limiting belief with a helpful one: Tell yourself exactly the opposite of it to overwrite it. One needs to replace it. Because only deleting it hardly ever works. Just try strop drinking, smoking, eating unhealthy food. There is hardly a chance to succeed if one does not replace it with a new pleasant habit.
The new beneficial belief can be programmed in your subconscious mind e.g. with incantations:

Another possibility is mind storming: Write the new belief on a paper and write below it:

And find 50 examples, stories, ideas, … that prove that the new beneficial belief is correct. That can take a week or two. And that is good! Because it keeps your mind focussed for a long time on the new belief until your subconscious does not doubt it anymore. So it will attract more of it in the future.

3. How to manage the growth-pain while Overcoming Self Limiting Beliefs?

The pain is not pleasant, but it is a strong driver to get someone going. But in the long run, you need pleasure to keep you on track and to enjoy your journey.

Marathon Training at Pantai Pererenan

Meetingpoint: 7:30 at Gajah Mina, Pantai Pererenan

We meet every 3rd day at 7:30 a.m.

Meetingpoint is Pererenan Beach at the Gajah Mina statue. With the exceptions:

  • the mountain training sessions are in Tabanan
  • the 30 km run starts already at 6 a.m.
  • no training after the 30 km run for a longer relaxation phase

Bali Marathon Training plan for a 4h target time:

July 24, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 8 km, 1h, slow beach run, shoes are optional, they will get wet

July 27, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 40 min interval training, street run

July 30, 7:30 a.m.: Jl. Pahlawan, Kabupaten Tabanan, 10 km, 1,5h, mountain run
Please note: It is almost 1 h ride to get there from Pererenan!

August 2, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 10 km, 1h, beach run

August 5, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 50 min interval training, street run

August 8, 6:00 a.m.Pantai Pererenan, 30 km, 4h slow beach run to the airport and back, including a watering stop at Kuta beach

On August 11 is no training. Just relax from the 30 km run.

August 14, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 9 km, 1h, slow beach run

August 17, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 1h interval training, street run

August 20, 7:30 a.m.: Jl. Pahlawan, Kabupaten Tabanan, 12 km, 1,5h, mountain run
Please note: It is almost 1 h ride to get there from Pererenan!

August 23, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 12 km, 1h, beach run

August 26, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 1h interval training, street run

August 29 7:30 a.m.: Jl. Pahlawan, Kabupaten Tabanan, 14 km, 1,5h, mountain run
Please note: It is almost 1 h ride to get there from Pererenan!

September 1, 7:30 a.m.: Pantai Pererenan, 6 km, 1h, slow beach run

There is no training scheduled during the last week before the marathon. Just relax!

The Bali Marathon 2019 takes place on September 8. Start and Finish of the Bali Marathon are at the safari and marine park. Enjoy the race!

Training Your Risk Tolerance

Other than advertisers tell us: you can’t buy security!

Two of the basic needs God gave us are security (certainty = safety first) and adventure (uncertainty = safety third). She must have a strange kind of humor 🙂 because they are driving us in two opposite directions along the same track!

The fallacy of “safety first” thinking 🤔

Safety first is a good concept for civil aviation, because there is no option to stop along the way on the sidewalk, what you would probably do if your car makes some funny noise, and have a look at, what is wrong with your vehicle.

But if we constantly want to improve our security, by closing insurance contracts for everything that could go wrong, putting pillows everywhere around ourselves, avoiding anything that might be risky, we might expect a pretty calm life. But we start dying inside, due to the boredom that takes over in our life. Most people live like that, and they get really unhappy. Even though their life is so protected, and they don’t even know why they are unsatisfied. Always being concerned about security, makes even stronger your fear of the danger that is awaiting you behind every corner. Plus it limits your growth!

Those who go the other way, who are willing to take (calculate-able) risks, keep training their mind to handle risks and fear better. Their self-confidence grows, so they believe that they are able to solve any problem that might appear.

And by the end of the day, those people get to experience more security in their life. Living with a mindset like that, they fulfill both of their basic needs: uncertainty and certainty. But always remember: Uncertainty comes first!

This brings me to the bottom line:

The bigger your risk tolerance is,
the more certainty you will experience in your life!

And once again, there is no ultimate stage, in which you will experience the ultimate feeling of absolute certainty. But you are able to have a lot of pleasure along the way, like those runners still having about 35 km ahead of them until the finish line 🏁
