Tomorrow is Silent Day

Balinese Nyepi on March 7, 2019

This is the Balinese New Year. And it is very different than in the western world. Because Bali goes 24 hours offline. Most cultures celebrate New Years with fireworks and a lot of party, alcohol, and a lot of noise. Nyepi, as the Balinese Hindu Day of Silence, is called, is intended to meditate, and getting quiet inside.

  • Even going on the street is forbidden, no music, no fires, no electric light …
  • Bali Goes 24 Hours Offline on Thursday, March 7, from 6 am until Friday, March 8, at 6 am (Bali, Perth, Singapore time zone).
  • And all shops and restaurants will be closed, only hotels provide basic services to their guests.
  • Further, the Airport is out of service for 24 hours on March 7 from 6:00 central Indonesia time (WITA) and will be served again on March 8 at 06:00 western Indonesia time (WIB)

I am really looking forward to this quiet and peaceful Silent Day in Bali. And I will enjoy my

thinking time and meditation.
